Is your LG WashCombo washer dryer combo malfunctioning?
A very common repair request we get in the Park Slope and Williamsburg area is for a LG Washing machine that is not draining.
To clarify “not draining” means the appliance will fill with water and wash for a bit, but the water will not empty out of the unit for the washing function and final spin cycle.
A washing machine that does not empty the water from a cycle will cause newer electronically controlled appliances to present an error code. The LG washer “OE” code is short hand for “obstruction error.”
If “OE” seems familiar to you make sure to check your Drain Filter.
The Drain Filter
If you have the owners manual for the washing machine you will find instructions from LG on how to remove drain filter obstructions.
You should also be able to access the appliance owners manual on the LG website. Have your model number ready when visiting their site.
Drain Filter Access Tips
- Be safe and shut the electrical power to the washing machine. Do not attempt any of the following unless you are both qualified and safe to do so.
- Press the tab to open the filter cover found at the bottom left of most LG washing machines and combo units. (older models may be on the right)
- Get a small bowl or empty water bottle to collect water. Remove the plug found inside small diameter hose behind the cover you just opened.
- Drain all remaining water from the unit. Place a large towel at the bottom of your machine and open the large drain filter cap. (turn counter-clockwise).
- Protect your floor – there will be water when you open the filter cap*********
- You may find at this point there is a bunch of coins or other debris that was clogging your drain pump filter. Remove any coins or debris found in the filter.
Safety Tip***
Make sure you secure the filter back in place and plug the small diameter hose with the cap you removed before turning the machine on.
Run A Test Drain Cycle
The quickest way to test for proper drain is to pour enough water into the unit (use a pasta pot) by hand until there is pooling inside the tub. When you notice enough water inside close the door.
Press the following buttons and only the following buttons. (Do not turn the dial)
Now Press : Power 1x – spin speed 1x – start 1x
You may now see the water leaving the unit and the machine draining again. Hip-Hip-Hooooray!
